What's artistic liberty?
Don't have any ideas for your suit? Looking for something that really stands out? Want a complete surprise? Consider an artistic liberty fursuit!
An artistic liberty commission is where you give us a couple of keywords and preferences, and we will design a brand-new character around that to turn into a fursuit!
The prompt you give us is short and flexible for us to work with. Here are a couple of examples:
- "A blue-accented but mostly natural colored coyote"
- "Here's a moodboard, I would love a lion designed off of it"
- "I'm cool with anything as long as there isn't any green"
- "Paleontologist dog"
It can be a little scary to order an artistic liberty fursuit because a lot of the control is outside your hands. However, an artistic liberty fursuit can lead to having a super unique and cool fursuit as we get to play with techniques or features that we otherwise may not have the opportunity to do!
You may choose between having plenty of WIP photos, only see the fursuit once the final photos are taken, or nothing at all until the fursuit is in your hands. You may choose to have WIP photos sent to a trusted friend/partner instead if you still would like someone to approve on your behalf. Some people love putting on their surprise fursuit for the first time while blindfolded and only seeing the final suit in a mirror when they're all suited up!
Ordering an artistic liberty fursuit
Artistic liberty commissions work a little differently from standard commissions. Instead of getting a quote, you come to us with a budget. The budget determines the complexity of the project. A higher budget allows for more complex patterns, specialty features, extra parts, additional props or accessories, or a mix between any of these!
Fill out the artistic liberty form. A "minimum offer" will appear after selecting your basic preferences. Your budget must be the minimum offer or higher, otherwise you may have to tone down some of the options.
We will reach out to you when we get your inquiry! We are closed most of the year for commissions, but when we open for a limited number of projects, you are welcome to apply.
Suppose your project was chosen... YAY! You're getting a Magic Mustelids fursuit!
First do a little celebratory dance! Then, send us the 50% non-refundable deposit to confirm your slot. Once you are confirmed, you will be added to our Trello queue, invited to our client group chat on Telegram, we will begin sourcing materials, and we will create an annotated concept sheet that portrays your character in our style. You'll need to supply us with your measurements, as well as a duct tape dummy (DTD) and a pair of shoes if you are commissioning a fullsuit.
If you choose to see the design before it gets made into a fursuit, you are allowed up to 2 revisions before committing. Otherwise it will remain a mystery!
You have control over how public you'd like the WIP photos to be. Upon request, we can either only send photos to you, or keep the fursuit a complete surprise and either send photos to a trusted friend/partner, or no one at all.
All of our heads are 3D modelled and printed. Unless requested otherwise, you will get plenty of screenshots of your model, and drawovers to visualize how the final head will look.
Shipping time!
Once your fursuit is finished, it's time for it to get shipped to you! If you are local to the New England area, you may arrange the fursuit to be picked up from us. Otherwise we will take portfolio photos, package the suit up, and ship it insured via USPS. We will ask if you would like signature confirmation to avoid package theft. Shipping costs and import fees are not included by Magic Mustelids.
